what is with the copycat styling that entices people to follow a crowd ... there's a huge lack of individuality

I cannot comprehend this in it's entirety

if you like it - get it - wear it - smoke it ...

if you don't stop looking to be clones !!!

People like to use clothing as a billboard to which "sect" they identify with. It makes them feel part of a group and explain their general beliefs.

I hate cookie cutter cloning type styles. I also borrow certain styles from other "groups" that my group won't wear because I just plain like it. Thankfully, I live out of town so no one really cares.

It is a rare individual that can have green hair and feel confident Wink

There are times, although they're pretty rare, that I actually like what's in style in the frum world, but I won't wear it because I refuse to look exactly like everybody else.

Like you said, if people like it, they should wear it, who cares if people are dressing similarly as long as they feel good Smile

I also think trends can offer a new perspective on fashion choices, or reiginite other trends. For instance, when kerisma skirts starting trending: It was a rather new style to see a skirt like that, but once they become available, women started buying them because they realized they liked how they looked on them.

At the end of the day, feel good in your clothes. Who cares if you look like your neighbor as long as you feel good Smile

I'd say it's because conforming to the norms of your peers is important. But of course there are people who take it to the extreme.

The frum world doesn't encourage individuals to be individual. G-D forbid anyone should stick out. What they don't realize is that if everyone did her own thing no one would stick out.

Can you pick out one yellow umbrella among a sea of black umbrellas? Of course. Can you pick out a yellow umbrella among a sea of red, white, blue, green purple, pink, black, beige, floral, striped, checked and rainbow colored umbrellas? You might, but it would take some doing.
