I have one working air conditioner, approx. an 8,000 unit. Smallish.

Haven't used it all summer long as I aim to save on electricity.

I had a guest this week and guest needed a/c so we turned it on and heard wings flapping about. I immediately turned it off. Tried again this morn, and wings are flapping. I immediately turned it off.

Is there a way to get the birds to come out on their own?

Is there a way for me to get them out?

Has anyone ever had this situation?

Help, please. Thank you!

open it up with a screwdriver & free them ... then they will leave

turning it on doesn't seem like the best idea as you can kill them

Try an exterminator. Even if u get them out if there's a meet they'll come right back. An exterminator can put on a gel that repels them and keeps them from returning

It's installed in top part of window. Possible to unscrew from inside the bedroom? I'll go look for the screw locations.

The cost of the a/c was $185 and $40 installation fee. Will check with exterminator how much it will cost to take care of this matter.

of course I wouldn't. It's why I turned the a/c off immediately, the second I heard the wings flapping.

Greenie, you're being in NY anytime soon? I need your help to free up the birdies

When you reinstall it cover the exterior in metal mesh screening, that will keep the birds and bugs out of the unit.

what do you think exterminators do ... they EXTERMINATE

last time we had a raccoon trapped in the ceiling, the exterminator set out a trap, then released the creature.
I'm guessing an exterminator may either find a way to trap the bird, then release it. Or know how to open the a/c and release it.
I'm worried about exposing myself to bird mites as I have a compromised immune system, so prefer someone other than myself opens the a/c to release the birdie(s)

I can pick you up at a location in NY. Did you mean that? Or did you mean being picked up from outside of NY?
