Our mohel told us to use Vita Merfen 3 times a day for a week. I had a tube in the house but seem to have misplaced it and the pharmacy doesn't have it in now. I was thinking of using Bactroban instead since I have plenty of that and it seems to be similar to the Vita Merfen. I can't get a hold of the mohel right now to ask him if that's acceptable. Have any of you been told to use Bactroban after the bris? I'm wondering if this is an acceptable treatment. Thanks.

I think that's what our mohel tells to use.

Is it infected?

Bactroban is a prescription medication. Is he writing a script for you? Or are you using someone else's leftovers?

I think you should ask your pediatrician.

BTW I looked it up and vita merfen and bactroban are not equivalent. Vita merfen is a skin cleanser and disinfectant while bactroban is an antibiotic.

I was told that even triple antibiotic / bacitracin is good enough.

Bactroban is antibiotic ointment that is used for prevention purposes. It's not shayech overdose. Many mohalim suggest it.

Bactroban is a prescription cream that treats bacterial skin infections.

Bacitracin is an over the counter cream that is used for prevention purposes.

Thanks for the replies. DH is heading back to the pharmacy and asking them for something equivalent to Vita Merfen instead.

The pharmacist gave him Bepanthen Plus and said it's the same as Vita Merfen. The mohel finally called us back and said that it's fine, so we're going to stick with that.

Thanks!

We were told A&D or Vita-Morfen.

This was in Israel and the (American) mohel was so excited to see that we had A&D from America.
