I think its a Yiddish word.

lol this made me laugh. no its not betampte. its pedante. its means well dressed and put together and fancy. my mother says it sometimes. you get she speaks a real good yiddish. thats european. well she is. its also with a "n" not a "m"

I know Batampte! I knew this starts with a "P" sound and was similar.

Yes thats what I was referring to. I hear the word used often, but I wasnt sure what it meant.

Whats the root in a Yiddish dictionary? I cant find anything similar here:

Does it mainly refer to dress, or can it refer to decor in a house?

Is it connected to this maybe?

Pedante is someone who is very clean and does not like to get dirty.

I would say a child is pedant because she doesn't like to get her hands dirty.

That's interesting. "Pedantic" in English describes someone who is very concerned with the precision and accuracy of minor details, especially about academic topic.

In Hebrew, you would say "pedanti" (or "pedantit" for a woman).
