How do I get the smell out of a Tallis? If I sent it to the cleaners, would they be able to get the smell out? It smells old and musty.

You can wash it at home. I did and it came out beautifully. Just ask DH so you iron it correctly.

Yes, we send my husband's talit to the dry cleaner a few times a year. Smells new and clean. No musty smell to speak of afterward.

Also hang it out in sunlight for a day. This helps my musty woolens.

I am in NJ but not Lakewood. For us it costs $10, but before Pesach and Rosh Hashana they do them for free with any other order. So nice.

BTW this reminds me of the old joke:
Menachem needs his tallis dry-cleaned. He sends it to the best dry cleaner in town, Ho Chi Wung Cleaners.
They tell him to come back in a week.
When he comes back, they give him the bill, which says $50.00.
Fifty dollars to clean my tallis?!, Menachem reads, astonished.
No, no, no! replies the dry-cleaner. Five dollars to clean tallis, forty-five dollars to take out all knots!
