Rosh Hashana is approaching faster than you can slice an apple and while many of us wish we could be celebrating with our friends and family living in Israel it's not always possible. Below are 5 tried and true tips from the pros (aka Bubby and Zaidy) that show you care from across the ocean:

1. Give tzedakkah to a charity in your Israeli loved one's neighborhood (I.e. a donation to a local Kuppah Shel Tzedakkah or Likrat Kallah). Ask the organization to send a card to the recipient with a personal message that ties into one of the main themes of Rosh Hashana including Malchiot, Zichronot and Shofarot. To learn about which charities have high trust ratings, check out Charity Navigator.

2. Send a sweet hug with a gift basket filled with fresh baked goodies. We personally love including traditional fare like apples and honey, honey cakes or muffins and assorted goodies and treats for little ones. Include a "sweet" Rosh Hashana greeting like: "May this Rosh Hashana be filled with health and happiness, and sweet moments for you and your family. L’shanah Tovah!”

3. A gift that graces a yomtov table can also make a big statement as your loved one can think of you during the seudah. While honey Jars and apple slicers can definitely do the trick, our pros (yes Bubby and Zaidy again) suggest something that can be used again and again like a wooden challah board set will create lasting memories.

4. If you're on a budget don't sweat it. Between Skype, What's App and Facebook messaging you can call your loved ones for free. If you have some time to spare create a personalized free book from Storybird.com or collaborate with friends and family, it's interactive.

5. Looking for a kid friendly gift or greeting? Candy platters are always a big hit. If you combine them with balloons or a plush teddy bear the candy may soon be gone but definitely not forgotten. If you want to opt for a healthy alternative you can always send a veggie platter, fresh or dried fruit platter too.

שָׁנָה טוֹבָה וּמְתוּקָה!
