We're thinking of moving to the Monsey area (spring valley, chestnut ridge, Dexter park, new city, Pomona etc.)
We are considering buying a house and I'm wondering if there are ever houses with legal rental basements. I'm seeing a lot of houses advertised as having an "in law suite." Is it legal to use these for rentals? Do people do it anyway? (Not asking because I want to rent illegally. Asking because I'm curious what newlyweds in the area rent.)
If you know of areas with houses that do have legal rentals on a separate floor, I'd appreciate if you can point me towards them. Thanks!!

it depends on the zoning, but yes, u can have a legal apt.
re the area, u have to look at the individual house.
when looking at listings, youll see that some say it is zoned for a legal rental for addtl income
or u can apply on your own to make an apt legal
are you working with a real estate broker? they know the ins and outs
