I am building a kitchen and would like to install one by the milchige sink. But I don't know which company is durable and worth buying.

Please share your experiences. Thanks.

I recently built a new home and put one in by my milchig sink -- I love it. Mine is by Insinkerator and was relatively expensive, in part because I needed a more unusual finish (oil rubbed bronze) which wasn't available in many cheaper models, plus this was very highly rated. I'd suggest you took through different ones and check sites like Amazon and read reviews. I worked with an interior designer & plumbing consultant who helped me picked the one I got.

We have one -- made by Waste King. I love love love it. My mother-in-law has one made by KitchenAid (I don't think they manufacture them anymore) and it has been going strong for nearly a decade. I've had mine for over 2 years no problem. I ordered it off of Amazon (actually sold them a calculus textbook from college that covered its cost!) and my husband installed it. I can't imagine not having it. So great.

I'd be terrified of a built-in. I have a little kid that climbs on everything and plays with things when I'm not looking. Hot water? No way!

Valid concern. I'm an empty nester. However, there are some models with a safety control where you can only turn it on while pressing down or something similar. Mine does not have any kind of safety control. You can also adjust how hot it gets.

Not like an urn. It has a tank under the sink which heats and maintains the hot water so that it is always hot. Depending on your setting, it can range from just more than warm to extremely hot.
