I am about to be put out on the street. I hope someone here can help.
My landlord sold the house a few months ago and I've been court ordered to vacate.
I found an apt. a few months ago and due to bureaucratic issues the mandatory pre-move-in inspection was severely delayed.
Turns out, the inspection failed on three occasions, most recently a few days ago. NYCHA will not reinspect at this point, so I must find another apt. before the Marshal shows up.
I feel desperate. Marshal is scheduled to show up Oct. 22, unless I'm out by then.
Would anyone here know of a 3BR apt. , with an owner who'd accept the voucher?
I'm in Brooklyn, and am not selective about neighborhoods. A roof over our heads is what matters at this point.
Thank you!

I have no idea what is going on in Brooklyn. It's hard to find apartments. Just giving you something to think about . Why don't you consider moving to another area where it's not so hard to find apartments? Like monseyr or Lakewood. You can transfer it all there. Plenty of people I spoke to all said you can transfer. Quality of life is much better. Just a thought.
Also you can call real estate brokers they know a lot what's going on. Hatzlacha. Hope you get something real quick. Let us know if you find something.

I don't know of anything but can I ask: why did you wait till the court ordered you to vacate? I would be wary of taking a tenant who needed to be evicted... Why would I knowingly put myself into a situation where it will take a year to vacate the apartment if I need it?

Porting a voucher is possible but not within 14 days, most agencies tell you that it may take as long as two months. It's also going to be difficult for a new housing authority to accept her if she is being put out under court order. If porting is acceptable to the new agency then the renter will have to complete income verifications etc. The residence will still need to be inspected.
I'm sorry you are between a rock and a hard place OP. Have you discussed interim emergency housing with your agency? They may have some available.

Would you consider an apt in Edison, NJ. If yes, let me know - I may know of something.

For me to get moving assistance from welfare, etc. I needed to be formally ''evicted''.

Did your housing authority advise you that these actions could preclude you from receiving a voucher?

The housing office gave me a transfer voucher, so that I may move to another Section-8 approved apt.

I would suggest that having a court order to vacate a rental isn't something that is viewed positively by a private property owner. I act as the defacto mgr where I live (4 units, nonowner occupied). If I get a pile of completed applications and someone has been evicted, they are out of consideration. TBS do you have the money for deposits? Please ask your housing authority about emergency housing.
