baking if the recipe is written out in weight or if I need to divide something into equal portions.
I weigh my food sometimes for portion control (especially cereal and ice cream)
sometimes if I'm only making part of a package where the directions are written for the whole box (like box of rice or couscous or a brownie mix) I'll measure it out and do the math to see how much of the other ingredients to add.
once in a while for envelopes to see how many stamps to put on.
