Seeking information from the Imamothers about South Carolina, namely the Charleston area.
Do you think it's a safe and comfortable place for an Israeli to visit?

I haven't been to Charleston, but I've been near there and I know some people from there. Based on that - I think it would be as safe as anywhere. I would not have concerns about travelling there with my family.
As for comfortable - I doubt there are kosher restaurants, but American grocery stores always have kosher food products. Assuming that kosher is an issue. Culturally - the southern US is very different from Israel culturally speaking, but southerners are IME very friendly and polite. Just remember to be polite by southern standards and not Israeli standards  (talk slower, smile more, yelling is an OK way to express homicidal rage NOT mild irritation, etc  ).

There's a MO shul (http://www.bsbisynagogue.com/), and there is Chabad.
There's a lot to see and do, and Southerners are very friendly.
