A waste of money? Ok but maybe it's good to charity those young students. |
Sorry kids coming to seminary/yeshiva for the year are financed (maybe a few exceptions) by the parents. Parents have to take meals not provided by the institution into their financial planning.
There are actual working families who are struggling to put food on the table. I can't consider kids having a fun year in Israel to be charity cases, and certainly not to the extent of providing them with costly hotel meals. Charity is for people who cannot afford the basics.
There have been threads here about seminaries sending students for Shabbat etc to families where the girls even see that there is barely enough food. If such families are big tzadikim and want to be machnis orchim kol hakavod to them but personally I find it offensive that seminaries should direct girls to such places.
And again, nobody owes anybody a hotel meal. And certainly not older singles who have paid for their own trips. Food is part of the cost of the trip. Plenty of take out available, no need to pay hotel dining room prices.
