What are "hoshanos" that they have to be bought? (Hoshanos in my machzor are prayers that are said...)

I'm assuming the aravos for the Hoshana Raba hoshanos. (We had a sign-up sheet in shul, dunno about where to get them last-minute here or in NY.)

A lot of the supermarkets here have had them available all week. Otherwise in the shuk; many shuls have tables set up outside; our shul whatsapp group had 4 guys advertising that they could get extras if anyone needed.
