I give my 8 month old some solids. Mainly vegetables from soup, Apple sauce and banana. Is it ok to try chicken? If yes, how do I serve it other than pureed?

You can take out some of the chicken from chicken soup and cut it very small.

Yes, I would often shred chicken soup chicken with my fingers. It's nice and and moist and easy for them to eat. All my babies loved chicken soup, with the chicken and soft carrot pieces. It's also really easy to heat up a bit of soup, and the chicken for a quick meal for the baby.

Like others said I would mash the chicken and carrots with a little broth from the soup and feed it to the baby. The only concern is that it may be too salty for baby so you may want to cook the soup without salt and add it later.

Don't mash or purée. I never do. Just give big chunks to hold.

How? I'm so afraid of choking /gagging.

I gave him small pieces last night. he had trouble swallowing it though. With the apple sauce, it went down better.

Thanks for all your advice.

What else is he ready for?

Also, will his eating now affect his eating habits for later on? Cuz my two older kids are real picky eaters and I feel like starting this baby early on all the foods which they won't touch. Any relevance?

About eating habits for me, I never did separate meals. What I cook for the adults the kids eat too. Both of them have reasonable food preferences. No real pickyness bli ayin hara.

Can you elaborate like what? As I said before, I can't handle seeing him gag and afraid of choking chv.

I use chicken from the chicken soup and shred with a fork or dice with a knife. It really falls apart.
I let my baby feed herself, some diced, cooked carrots and parsnip and shredded chicken from the soup. Its very small soft pieces.

I find freezing meal bowls for the baby when I have a fresh pot of soup is easy. I mix soft diced veggies, shredded chicken, some frozen peas, and soft pasta. Freeze all together and then I have a full meal she can feed herself.

food options we are doing now:

Cheerios
diced banana
diced avocado (I coat in crushed cheerios to make it easier to grasp)
melba toast\hard crackers\ bread crust\ toasted bread
frozen peas, defrosted
shredded chicken
meatballs or cooked ground beef (this I feed her)
soft pasta
baked potato
Baked sweet potato
soft cooked veggies diced: carrots, parsnip, zucchini
watermelon cut very small (I feed her)
pear - I use a spoon to scrape the side when very ripe

Amazing! Can I hire you to oversee dinner at our house? Wink

I'm too chicken (excuse the pun) to try most of the things which you listed. Then I wonder why my other kids don't touch certain foods! Confused
