I want to buy a set that comes with tracks and trains. I'm looking for something big where the kids can build the tracks differently each time. If it comes with a bridge, that's a great bonus... Wink

Please tell me what you have and if you are or aren't happy with it.

Ikea has a wooden set that it very well-priced. It may come with fewer accessories, but you won't do better in price.

It doesn't davka have to be wood. Generic trains will do.

Whatever you get make sure its compatible with the best brands. We have one made by brio but it's compatible with many others so you can add to it easily and build a bigger set.

We have a wooden kidkraft set that is really nice and good quality. I actually got it in Marshall's a few years ago for much cheaper than I've seen them in other places. Definitely worth checking out those type of stores, especially this time of year.

Great idea though I hate randomly checking out a bunch of stores and sifting through a ton of junk IYKWIM....

We have the IKEA tracks and trains. I don't love them, it seems to me that the tracks are a bit limited in what you can do and the trains don't stay attached, but honesty I have never tried another brand to compare.

thanks for your review. I didn't love them upon seeing them either (was picturing something bigger).

I got a Melissa and Doug one and then I bought a brio expansion pack as it was way cheaper than getting a name brand. I am very happy with both and honestly cant tell the difference between the two tracks.

I have this Brio set https://www.amazon.com/Brio-33.....eluxe
and have added on to it over the years. Brio is top of the line and has a lifetime warranty. When one piece broke, they replaced it immediately. The Brio trains are the only ones that have little people that can sit in them. This adds a lot of play value.

I know exactly what you mean! I guess if you happen to be in the store anyway it's worth checking out. Also, if you go now, or in the next couple of weeks, before the holiday rush it hopefully won't be as bad. I find that the closer it gets to x-mas the messier the stores get and the bigger pain it is to sift through what's there.

Check out Imaginarium by Toys 'R Us. Beware of misleading descriptions. When they say that a set has 80+ pieces, often half of them are trees and signs.

Brio, no contest. My kid play with Brio train set from my childhood, which is about 20-25 years old. It is in just as good condition as it was when I was little. The nice thing about the Brio is that you can buy a starter set and add on what you want. Like bridges? Check. Like trees and people? Check. Like buses and other vehicles? Check.
