Was thinking of becoming a BCBA for a while. I'm super creative and was wondering whether it would work with my personality. Is it very rigid and structured, or is there room for creativity?

There's tons of room for creativity!

You have to create an individually tailored program for every aspect you are trying to change, for every child.

And it helps to be creative with graphics, and with writing social stories, too.

That being said, the profession does also require excellent organizational skills. You have to help the therapists chart behavior changes, causes, consequences. Every single session. You have to be rigid about getting your time sheets in, or you can't get paid.

Firm, yet flexible. Works for the clients, works for the workload. Smile

Imasinger, are you a BCBA? I have some questions regarding the profession. Can I ask you them?

This. It's a certain type of creative - creative problem solving, flexible thinking type of creativity; definitely room for out-of-the-box; but definitely not for the freestyle artist. You need to work within the system.

I am not, but my DD is, and I have used BCBA's to help my kid with ASD for many years, and learned a whole lot, from both DD and the professionals who help us.

Feel free to ask. If I don't know the answer myself, I can ask DD.
