Sooooo I came to HATE winter coats!! So shleppy and bulky!! And carrying a baby, diaper bag, school bag down and up the stairs every day is so hard when wearing a winter coat. I also can't stand that the attached hood in the back ruins my shaitel whether or not I'm using the hood!! Can anyone direct me to a non bulky, yet warm winter coat? You know those puffy vests that are in? I love the look, and the fact that they are not full length. Do they make any with warm sleeves?

Buy any packable down jacket. Very light weight and very warm. They sell them everywhere. You can even get one without a hood.

I just got a 32 degrees ultra light down jacket at costco for 20$ , I tried to find it on the website, but I couldn't... however, they seem to have other soft thin warm jackets as well as shirts and leggings

The coats and vests mentioned here look nice, but won't be enough when it's _really_ cold. Lands End squall parkas are "rated" to be comfortable to negative 10 degrees. And they really are thin. They use some kind of engineered fibers that insulate but take up almost no space. My daughter wore one to school the last couple of days, and today her teacher asked me if I was sure she was warm enough because her coat is so thin. I assured her that they are supposed to be like that and that my kids have been wearing them for years and been happy and warm. They are also amazingly wash-and-dry-able. The adult version has a removable hood too. Here it is, on sale for $49. I think LE is having a 40% off sale now, so you could get it for $30. There are some other versions (like knee-length) if you search around on the website.
