The trick is to try newbies. Check out the weekly link or torah times for their ads. Some are really good!

many times there are shaitel machers who are just starting out, or shaitel macher's assistants who work as assistants during the day, and at night they wash and set people's shaitels. there is a little bit of a turnover, because the girls/ladies get experience, then charge more. ask around

Just curious- what is the range of prices in BP? Where I live, the range is 20-35.

The price range is crazy... the "reasonable ones" are 40 - 50.
Then you have sheitel machers charging 85+

Yes mostly the newer ones or the ones that do it from home in the evening charge less. But eventually as they build their clientele and experience they go up.
My current one charges $30. My previous one went from $35 > $45 > $50 in such a short time.

Is there a reason for it or is it just because you know people don't have a choice and will have to shell out hard earned money to look decent?

Average is $45-$55.
But I've heard of people paying way more too.

Yes my sheitel macher in BP just went up from $50 to $60
