Anyone familiar with the concept of health sharing versus mainstream health insurance?

You may need to ask a shaila before joining. Many of the health shares are Xtian and requires you to sign a statement of belief, which could be halachically problematic.

This Jewish agent claims there's a frum subdivision within the main faction and we will need sign nothing of the sort. I must say the chunk we will be saving sounds unreal.

I don't believe they all cover the same things as regular insurance. One I saw advertised said they don't cover care for chronic/preexisting conditions. They also won't cover things they are religiously against.

No, they don't. There's a list online: mental health, drug rehab, abortions, fertility treatments among other things. I get the drift. But this may be perfect for my family situation right now. Even if I did need services they don't cover and I end up paying out of pocket, it can still be cheaper in the long run. Think about it. I'm currently paying 2000$ a month for other people's pre-existing conditions and poor lifestyle choices. Socialism is great and all but I cannot afford it! The only thing that bugs me here is the Christian angle. I wish there were a Jewish sharing group.

I'm not sure what your income is like, but if your employer does not offer health benefits, maybe you'd be eligible for an obamacare plan with some government subsidy. See https://www.healthcare.gov/ Also, again depending on income, kids may be eligible for a medicaid type plan - njfamilycare as income level eligibility for kids is pretty high http://www.njfamilycare.org/income.aspx

Thank you. That's really sweet. We're done with Obamacare though. Our plans used to be more reasonable before this novel screw up. Kids qualify for Child Health Plus for 190$ a month each. That's 1000$. Couple plan is another 1000$ with a 3000$ deductible each person. I'm talking Obamacare not elite private health insurance. (income is 200,000 before taxes)
