Hello, all!

Do you have a favorite brand or brands of kishke (mainly to be used for cholent)?

I always look for A and H brand but it's hard to find in my area for some reason (even though we have lots of kosher markets!!).

Today I picked up A&B brand (pareve) and another brand of which is fleisch - not sure of the name, was something I had never heard of.

Could you tell me about kishke brands you buy and what you like about them?

Thanks so much!

Bracha

I tried many and settled on tyrnaurs. It's the best!

Read the ingredients. Make sure it doesn't have MSG or "caramel food coloring," both bad for you and unnecessary :-)

999 was always my favorite, but I make my own now. (don't see the 999 very often either)

I tasted every single one out there (frozen and from various take outs). After not finding one that I like I started making my own and it's delicious!! Tastes exactly like the ones you get by kiddushim in shul

Thanks, Shanie5. I think I'm going to make my own for the first time! May as well give it a go. It must be so delicious that way and you know exactly what's in it!

Heres the one I use: It's become very popular on imamother.

kishkelach:
2 tsp paprika
1 tblsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups flour

put in a bowl in order given. mix. will form ball. either put in chulent as is (do not wrap) or make into little balls and put in chulent. adds lots of flavor

It's worth a try to use whatever gluten free item you use instead of flour.
My boss uses spelt flour and it works great. (I'm pretty sure spelt isn't gluten free, just an example of a substitute working)

suggestion : grind some celery or chop it fine and add to the mixture. It imparts a slight kick with an interesting flavor.
