My friends (older singles) moved into apartment and I want to get them a present. Any idea of cute essentials for singles apartment ?

I'd ask them what they'd enjoy receiving as a gift from me.

Why not ask them what they need or want? Chances are they're getting some stuff from their parents so you don't want to duplicate. The fact that they're "older" singles, whatever that means, or singles at all, isn't terribly relevant. A first apt. is a first apt. and needs everything regardless of how old the tenants are or what their marital status. Unless by "older" you mean well-established professionally, have given up on marriage and intend to stay here forever, in which case they would want quality stuff for life as opposed to the temporary junk that does for young folk just starting out who plan to be out of there just as soon as they get married or can afford to upgrade.
Plants are always nice as inexpensive housewarming gifts for people who like that sort of thing.
