How reliable or trustworthy are the lie detector tests? Right now, I'm watching an episode about a sister accused of murdering her nephew. Now if the sister (or anyone) is said to have lied about not killing the baby, would law enforcement take it into consideration? Or are shows like this really just for ratings?

I never watched the show so can't tell you but I do know Daniel Ribocoff who was on the show(not sure if he is still on or the only polygraph that is on the show) and I know he is one of the best.

Not sure about the U.S., but in many countries they are inadmissable in court because they are not reliable.

1. Daniel Ribacoff, who administers each polygraph test, is among the very best in the country. If not the best.
2. The tv episodes are not admissible in court.
Having said that, the show often helps these people by sending tapes and lie detector tests to the police.
