Basically, my oldest is a bit over 2 and she gets really nervous now that 6 month dd can crawl. She really freaks out whenever the baby starts to crawl her way, and if 2 yr old is tired she will even burst into tears and run to hide behind me! I'm sure this is not so unusual so any ideas of how to calm the situation?
I know my older one loves her sister, she comes over and says hi, brings her toys, sings songs, protects her from other kids, etc. this really all started when the baby started crawling (a few weeks ago)...will it just pass? Anything I can do?

Why don't you start by asking her why she's afraid?

Is she afraid she'll touch her things?
Maybe she can "teach" the baby how to crawl.

She often says/yells things like, "no, don't touch, my toy/bike/shoe" so I'm sure a big part of it is the fact that there competition for her stuff.
But I've noticed that she will also get really nervous when any 6-18mo old heads her way. Dd will say something to the baby/toddler and when he/she doesn't react, THEN dd freaks out. It seems like she is scared when someone can move towards her but not communicate!

I think she would be able to communicate this to me, but she doesn't understand when I ask the question… Like she doesn't understand the concept of why questions or how come etc. Any ideas of how I could ask her?

Just throwing this out since you mentioned she seems scaried of something moving that can't talk.
Is she by chance afraid of dogs or animals?
She might think this is the same concept and is afraid?!

Funny that you mention this...she loves animals as long as she approaches first. When an animal comes toward her she freaks out. Could be a theme!
