Tiajuana right?
The last exit before the border is a nice outlet mall. People used to cross the border to get Khalua, but I'm not sure it's kosher anymore.
If you do cross, the bike lane is the shortest line to return.

LA doesn't border Mexico
San Diego does
Tijuana is right over the border from San Diego in Mexico. Been there a few times and there's not much to do there other than random shopping

If you want to visit San Diego, which is a few minutes north of the Mexico border, there are lots of things to do there- the San Diego zoo & Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park which has tons of museums, Legoland (in Carlsbad, about 30 miles north of San Diego), beaches, Old Town, Midway Musuem.... Etc.

There is an outlet mall called Las Americas Premium Outlets.
It is in San Diego, USA - right near the Mexican Border.
A lot of a other things to do in San Diego like Rachel6543 said and also there is SeaWorld.
Enjoy!

Op Tijuana has long been a dangerous place with lots of drug cartel activity. Though The NY Times just put it on the list of top destinations for 2017 saying it's up and coming. San Diego is a lovely city.

I've been to Tijuana. It's nothing great IMO. Just go down and enjoy San Diego. LA is not near the Mexican border.

Sorry to hijack, but I will be visiting San Diego with DH in a couple of weeks. Looking for recommendations for things to do, other than the zoo and theme parks. Maybe hiking? Also good shopping in the area.
If you have up to date kosher food info too.

It's probably better to start your own thread, but briefly, here are some excellent options in or near San Diego besides the zoo and theme parks: Torrey Pines State Park (out-of-this-world views for pretty easy hiking), La Jolla (pretty area + seal watching), Cabrillo National Monument, Speed Boat Adventures (google it - very cool!), USS Midway.

There are some lovely families in the college area in San Diego. There are lots of beaches. Ask the locals for a secluded place for your family to go together if you are uncomfortable at mixed beaches.
