My name is Rena, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I personally really dislike the other spellings, but I'm sure if my parents had spelled it Rina I would have felt that strongly about that as well.

I can tell you that my name has very rarely been mispronounced. And agree with previous poster, I'd much rather reh-na than rye-na.

Hope this helps. I do feel though that whatever spelling you decide on, your child will learn to love and appreciate! Good luck!

Rina.
Rena is ren-a to me, like rent or render.
Reena looks so odd.

I voted for Rina. My mother A"H was Risa, and I can't imagine spelling it Resa or Reesa, so that's what's influencing me.....

Reena is the least likely to be mispronounced but it looks unfamiliar, could just be that I'm not used to it- Rina and Rena are much more common spellings in my mind.

I'm Rena too.

I personally prefer it to Rina and definitely over Reena.
Rena just looks right to me.

I like Dina better than Dena though.

I have a daughter Rena.

We considered Rina long and hard. It is a more consistent and logical transliteration from the Hebrew.

But we chose Rena because a) at least three-quarters of the Renas I know spell it that way (but the others use every alternative you've seen in this thread), and b) we thought it would be the easiest spelling for non-Jewish Americans to understand.

Non-Jews have never had the slightest problem in spelling and pronouncing Rena. It has never been mispronounced, I'm pretty sure.

On the other hand, Israeli relatives consistently misspell it as Rina. So there you go!

Thanks all. We went with Rina in the end. Should I start a new poll regarding the Hebrew spelling (with or without a yud...)? Wink

רנה is spelled without a י in the תנ"ך. Check any bencher.
However we chose to use a י anyway.
When she started school at 3, the principal insisted we are spelling it wrong.
We thanked him but kept our spelling.

This is true. We took the name from the haftara of the week that said "pitzchu harim rina" and it is spelled without a yud. We spell it with a yud, though.
