Is it tacky to send out postcards that you have a bridal registry?

Just randomly? Yes

But if you are sending out engagement party invitations, you can write on the bottom where the couple is registered.

Yes.

Most people will know that there is a registry, and will ask where it is. But its tacky and grabby to send out postcards basically telling people "BUY SOMETHING FOR ME!!"

Please be sure that the registry includes items at all price points. Great Aunt Frumma (or a group of a dozen friends of the parents) might indeed want to purchase the $800 cookware set but the kallah's high school friends would like the option of purchasing a mixing bowl.

Often friends host a bridal shower. On that invitation the registries are listed.
It's tacks to send with the wedding invite.

Yes, as is any other hint that you expect people to give you gifts. Wait for people to ask you or someone close to you where, or if, you are registered.

Thumbs Up

What SixOfWands said.

A little more leeway is usually given for bridal shower invitations because it's technically not the kallah herself who is demanding the tribute. Her friends are demanding it on her behalf!

DD and her friends all have websites that give info about the wedding (where it will be, where people from OOT can stay, any tsnius requirements in case some guests don't know). There's always a line there about registries.
