If I dent a can, I open it and use the contents right after it happens.
Otherwise I'm careful not to purchase cans with dents as once it gets knocked in aluminum will slowly leak into the food.

Most of the cans here seem to be dented. I pick the one as that the can opener will work on.

I never heard that. I just heard that you don't want to buy a bulging can because of botulism.

same here ~ if I dent it myself then I will use it soon ... otherwise I would never use a dented can even if I were starving & someone gave it to me

It depends where the dent is and how bad. If it's near the top or bottom of the can I discard no matter the size of the dent. If it's in the middle, it depends on the size of the dent and my mood that day Wink
