Is it true, one should not say tehilim at night?

I asked my father once and he said that yes, unless it has to be said right then, it shouldn't be said at night. I don't remember the source anymore but can ask again if it interests you.

If it's for a choleh, say it when you could. If it's your daily tehillim, it should be during the day.
If someone is having surgery when it's night where you are, say it then.
One time the mother of a sick baby, whom I knew well, called me and said it's very serious. I asked my friends I was with to say tehillim with me. One refused saying it was after Shkiya.
I was upset, that's an inyan, this is pikuach nefesh!

The Mishne Berurah quotes the Ari as teaching that one should not say pesukim from Torah shebichsav at night (which would include Tehillim, as Tehillim is included in the Kesuvim section of Tanach). However, the Mishne Berurah says that this does not apply to one saying pesukim as tefillos of entreaty for one's personal needs. So if one wants to say Tehillim at night accompanied by a bakashas rachamim ( entreaty for Heavenly mercy), it is permissible (hence we see Tehillim gatherings for Eretz Yisrael or for cholim held at night.)
So if you're saying Tehillim stamm, better in the day. If for a specific need, night is ok.
