My son and his friends ate 5 kilo of wings while watching the Super Bowl here LOL

I think it was just American. And I won't ask how many friends. Wink

I didn't know until a friend said something about it on Thursday tbh. And then I promptly forgot again. I don't think it's strange to not know of it happening if it doesn't come up in your family or circle, c'est la vie!

I know because you can't escape coverage but I have no interest in sports.

I will generally watch the commercials online. The extended ad for lumber84 was banned by Fox and was quite good.

Last year I loved the one with dachshunds dressed as ketchup and mustard bottles dashing to people with hot dogs ๐Ÿ˜‚

FTR, I know, DH barely and only because of work.
Spinoff thread: how many of the estimated 1.3 billion chicken wings did you eat?

Yea she she started with God Bless America, moved on to This Land is Your Land and ended the whole show with the pledge of allegiance after singing about inclusion.

The singers from Hamilton were a bit more political when they edited the words of America the Beautiful to include sisterhood.

You forgot to mention George and Barbara Bush doing the coin toss. (She looks great.)

The Bushes were an iconic and ironic moment but the OP was asking about Lady G getting political.

Most people think This land Is Your Land jingoistic just as they think that Born in the USA By Springsteen is about blind patriotism

In fact Woody Guthrie song is the antithesis of being blindly patriotic although most people are completely unfamiliar with most f the verses.

This land is your land,
This land is my land,
From California to the New York Island,
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway,
I saw below me that golden valley,
This land was made for you and me.

I roamed and I rambled, and I followed my footsteps
To the sparking sands of her diamond deserts,
All around me a voice was sounding,
This land was made for you and me.
When the sun came shining, then I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving, and the dust clouds rolling,
A voice was chanting as the fog was lifting,
This land was made for you and me.

One bright sunny morning, in the shadow of the steeple,
By the relief office I saw my people,
As they stood there hungry, I stood there wondering if,
This land was made for you and me.
Was a big high wall there that tried to stop me,
Was a great big sign that said, "Private Property, "
But on the other side, it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking my freedom highway,
Nobody living can make me turn back,
This land was made for you and me.
Maybe you've been working as hard as you're able,
But you've just got crumbs from the rich man's table,
And maybe you're thinking, was it truth or fable,
That this land was made for you and me.

No need to tell me. I've always thought This Land should be the national anthem. Woody fought fascism with music, just like Pete Seeger, Cisco Huston and others did.

I think Gaga did a great job at making a statement on inclusion without being "political" in an overt way. In fact, a lot of right wing folks I know commented on how she wasn't political. I guess they just didn't see it. I liked the opening part - I thought it was a great political statement that is hard for anyone to take issue with - singing lines of iconic American songs and the pledge of allegiance. No one can really take issue with the pledge of allegiance. It's about as patriotic as you can get.

Am I the only one who can no longer hear Gaga perform "Born This Way" without hearing Weird Al's version, "Perform this Way"?
