Or is it just a design?
I want to buy myself something nice. A lot of jewelry has heart designs. If I wear a ring with a heart shape on it are people going to assume I have a boyfriend/fiance/spouse who gave it to me?
Does it make a difference if it's on a ring or on something else?
Does it make a difference if the heart is a stone or just a metal shape?

Some necklaces I was looking at:
www.jcpenney.com/womens-diamon.....klace
www.jcpenney.com/womens-white-.....klace
www.jcpenney.com/jsp/browse/pr.....50731

And rings:
www.jcpenney.com/womens-diamon.....age=4 (I really like this one! But it is very heartsy.)
www.jcpenney.com/genuine-ameth.....quZ8x
http://www.jcpenney.com/person.....large (a little less heartsy but I don't really like the plain shiny silver look)

I'm looking for something I can wear everyday so my lack of wedding ring is not too obvious but I also don't want to go the opposite way and have people assume I'm married. I'm trying to steer away from anything with a single stone in middle because that looks to me like an engagement ring. It also can't be too expensive, and has to come in small sizes. So my options are a little limited.

They all look like Valentines day presents to me. That said - does it matter what people think?

I don't think they indicate love. I think it is a girly symbol kind of like a butterfly or flower. Choose whatever you think is pretty and don't worry about other people's imaginations.

You can get a pretty ring that does not look like an engagement ring or wedding band.
It's hard to balance between pretty, little girl, and the wrong message.
A heart could work, but depends on the setting.

If you are worried about people mistaking it for an engagement/wedding ring, I would steer away from heart and diamond chip rings. The necklaces are fine though.

Having said that, I'll also add that I don't think you need to worry about your lack of wedding ring being obvious, as you wrote in the op. Many married women, myself included, don't wear their rings daily.

From your choices I like this one and don't think it shows an indication of love.

The rings above seem a bit too heartsy as you say. What about something simple like this? Open rings can be really pretty and look great on the finger.

Yes, hearts usually connote love. But it could be friendship or parental love, not just romantic love.

That said, a heart-shaped ring worn on the left hand would definitely be misconstrued by many people as a symbol of a romantic relationship. Right hand as well, but probably a bit less so.

It matters what people think because first of all I hate awkwardness and I don't want to invite awkwardness by appearing married when I'm not. Secondly if I look married then people will not think of me as possibly interested in shidduchim.

Exactly - about balancing between wrong message and little girl. I have very small fingers so that's what I'm dealing with. Do you have any suggestions of what kind of style might work for a non-engagement-ring?

This is what I wear I on right hand, one was given to me from my mom, and one from a friend.

This I wear on my left middle finger.... If from hadaya, the pasuk ring guy in old city.

I also had to really think about what to wear after divorce..This is what I came up with, at different times... It wasn't all at once... Also I don't change my jewelry so choosing a Ring/finger combo was a bigger deal

No hearts. No solitaires. No band-style rings. At least not on the left hand. Something with a larger stone, a non-band design, or an open-style ring.

QVC seems to have a decent selection of smaller-sized rings, size 5 to 5-1/2. Smaller than that, they all look like wedding rings to me. Also try ebay.

Singleagain, I really like the ones in your first picture! Wish I knew where to find something like that. Didn't see anything yet.
Sixofwands, thanks for the links. I think larger rings look weird on my little fingers.
Also, my budget is under $50 preferably even less.

OMG must be so hard to find. I'm 4.5-5 and felt limited. JC Penney was the first place I saw those sizes widely available but I don't know if they had 3!

I'm loving some of the styles on the link sixofwands just posted but feeling hesitant about pushing so close to the limit I set for myself in a place that doesn't have where to return things without paying shipping. I would love to see those kinds of items in a brick and mortar store in NY so I can try things on before putting money on it. With the coupon code the rings actually cost less than the JCP ones (also with code) but I feel a lot more comfortable ordering a few to try on and then being able to return it to the store nearby for free. Especially since I'm not exactly a 5, some 5s fit and some are still too big, so I can't be confident that what I get will fit.

This is the other reason I can never have nice things: Because I can't choose. I like pretty things but can never commit to a particular one.

Here's with the hearts again but it's not a boy-gift looking heart: https://www.sterlingforever.co.....ffany

And I really like this but not sure if I could wear it really all the time:
https://www.sterlingforever.co.....g-set
I know it seems like silly reasoning but I really do want something I can wear all the time because right now I just don't have the money to buy a selection of rings, and I want something to be "my ring" instead of a wedding ring that I used to wear all the time. I feel kind of bald without it.

And this is sweet, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the bumpy parts going all the way around.
https://www.sterlingforever.co.....tones

And of course all of them are from the website that deducts the original free shipping if you end up returning it, in addition to the shipping you pay to get it back to them.

I'm kind of pulled toward the plain-looking heart one, even though I thought I wasn't going to go with hearts.

In my experience heart seems to invite others to ask "Who bought that for you?" If you don't want to deal with that, I'd go with something else.

I really like the stacking one! It also gives you the option to wear only one or two at a time so you have 7 possible combinations to wear (more if you count different orders). This way you can wear something smaller for day to day or something a little more interesting when you feel like it.

I'm not sure really what you mean by not a boy-gift looking heart...but if you like hearts, you should wear them! Who cares if other people think they are gifts?
