So I read on the other (baby fashion) thread how shells are out. Personally, I would kind of like to not have to wear shells, especially in the summer. But what clothes are you finding and where are you finding them that don't need shells?

I live OOT and shop at regular stores, not frum ones. I have yet to find a shirt with a good neckline, and I'm even finding it hard to find long-sleeve ones, so a lot of my stuff is short sleeve tops which I wear over a long-sleeve shell (which is apparently the height of nerdy).

If you don't wear the shells, what are your other options?

personally, I don't see where shells are a style that can go "out". we don't wear shells as a fashion item we wear them to make fashionable clothing tzanua. therefore, I am ignoring this big fashion no-no and going on with my life.

the only way you can get away with shells is if you shop in Jewish stores. they make dresses and tops that are tzanua and don't need shells but then you're paying $80 for a t shirt and $200 for one dress.

And even at that price, the clothing probably won't last more than a season. I find that the Jewish made clothing pill and shrink etc

They are not considered nerdy. There are just some new styles out there. Don't you remember life before shells existed? I do! We just wore other things/styles then. I think shells became a popular item around 15 years ago. They are going to be around for a while since at this point they are just practical. Look out for new styles as they appear on the market but don't think that shells are nerdy.

So for almost all of those links you posted I would need to wear a shell underneath for the neckline anyway, so already I am "nerds/unstylish". I don't follow style/trends, though. I just go with what works for me bases on tznius, budget, and how it fits me.

Why? Those necks were all covered up to the neck.

Either way a sleeveless shell underneath is always ok, long sleeve under sleeveless or short sleeve is out.

Yeah, what were those things CALLED that you connected to the neckline? The v- shaped stuff?
Whatever. I'm following too.
Especially if I'll be able to wear the gorgeous suit my mother wore when she got engaged.

I also wouldn't be able to wear any of those tops without something underneath. maybe it's the way my neck shoulders are ... Some of the tops you posted are even shown with a blouse underneath with the blouse collar over the sweater neck.

Yeah same here. I hold the whole collarbone has to be covered, and none of those tops appear to do that...

I was thinking about using necklastic to fix the necks on some of my higher (but not high enough) necklines, but I'm not sure that would work...

This one really covers the entire collar bone. I know they put a shirt under on some of the pics, but it is totally not ness for tznious

I personally think it looks much worse to have one inch of shell showing around the neck than a long sleeve shell under a sleeveless top/dress. I agree that short sleeve looks weird with a shell though.

The neckline needs to cover where a necklace would fall. That one wouldn't work either. The only one that would work for me would be the turtleneck, and I hate turtlenecks.
