We live in Flatbush, and our 3rd-grade son is approved by the BOE for up to 5 P3 sessions a week. B"H he's very bright and doesn't need them for remedial services. We're interested in using them for enrichment and to stimulate him by teaching him writing skills that his yeshiva doesn't teach well.

Unfortunately, his yeshiva has not been helpful in helping us get a P3 provider. They say that they have very few available, because reimbursement rates are so low, and the ones they have in-house are not appropriate for what he needs, and we don't know where to turn or how to go about this.

We would be very happy for somebody to come to our house after school hours to work with him, even if they couldn't do all the sessions for which he's approved, but we don't know how to go about finding a qualified P3 provider.

Does anybody know of an agency we could contact, or a website where we could advertise the job, or perhaps somebody here who's interested in the job?

P3 is not for enrichment, it's for kids who have special needs and need support to participate in their classes. What are your IEP goals for this?

You have to test around two grade levels below in one area of weakness or one grade level below with two areas of weakness in order to be eligible for p3. The DOE doesn't give out 5 hrs so easily anymore. Does your child's yeshiva not teach english? Is that why he is behind? It is very hard to find a provider who will come to the home and who will start creating a curriculum for your child out of scratch with no connection to what the school is teaching. Most will not do that.

P.S. The reimbursement rates are not low if they are willing to make groups; it becomes much more of an issue when looking for someone to come to your house after school - you'd have to pay me a lot more to travel after hours for one kid and even then many people won't do it. And what does it mean that the in-house providers are not appropriate for his needs, if you're saying he doesn't seem to have any particular needs? Something weird here.

Lately they've been denying or approving only 3 sessions a week. Getting 5 sessions is for kids really behind over 2 grades. If your child was approved he is probably behind in English reading, writing or math.

Most Providers do not go to the students homes. It's not worth it financially, especially after factoring in "travel time".

As seeker said they won't prepare enrichment courses. Their mandate is to bring the child up to grade level in the three core subjects.

There's a provider list from the DOE and you can do a document search for all providers with your zip code, then cold call each one. Maybe there's someone around the corner that wouldn't mind if you drop your son off for an a hour an evening to do his tutoring. But it's hard to find because the pay for p3 providers one and one is very low.

Is the provider list available online, and if so, could somebody please provide a link? If not, what number should I call to obtain it?

She runs a center in Boro Park. She will not send providers to houses in Flatbush.
