Refuah sheleimah!

Please insist that he start doing cognitive and physical therapy immediately. The sooner you start, the better the outcome. I've had one minor stroke and one major one. Pushing hard and fast for recovery is the absolute best thing you can do.

Doctors tend to focus on physical therapy, but if the cognitive centers were affected, that needs to be addressed just as importantly. If he enjoyed any sort of puzzles, crossword, sodoku, Scrabble, or Trivial Pursuit, start working with that. Those neurons can all be rewired.

Refuah sheleyma-so sorry to hear.

My mother had a cerebellar stroke (which affected her balance and ability to walk) when she was in her 60s and BH she is doing much better now. I truly hope that your husband will be ok Heart!
