Yes, the square part. If you need, you can include a palm-sized portion of protein at snacks too.
This measurement is not on the fat - it's on the protein - so it doesn't matter if it's lower fat or not. Except, if the protein is lower in fat, you may want to add some more fat to your meal.
Look into the Whole30 - that's basically what I'm doing except I also cut out nuts, fruits and starchy veg - simply because those are foods without brakes for me - in the proper amounts you can eat those and still lose weight.
