I always repackage my chicken and meat by vacuum sealing it for freshness. What that means is that I always see and smell its condition within an hour or so of coming home.
Lately, I've been having trouble with ground beef. At 3 separate, unrelated stores, its been red on the outside, but brown inside. Since the meat browns when it is exposed to air, that means each of these stores has repackaged older meat by wrapping fresher meat around it. It makes me worry that the product may be spoiled, or at least not as fresh as claimed.
Has anyone else noticed this?
And more importantly, where do you purchase your ground meat in the NY/NJ area that does not do this?

This can be very dangerous for the consumer. Have you complained to the store? What did they say?
