I took my daughter to several regular stores looking for a YT dress. She wants a dress, not an outfit. the largest girl sizes were too tight and short. In women's the smallest they had in any dress she actually liked (not many!) was a 6 and while it was a good length and fit for the waist, way too big on top. the teen section had nothing for YT, of course.

What website other than Junees have tznius dresses for a teen? Are they really long enough? My daughter is tall. Why is it so hard to find tznius clothes for tall girls??? It is bad enough she wants to wear too short skirts, but I can't even find good skirts for her if I tried!

Please help!

I was tall and lanky growing up--alterations are your friend. It's not that expensive to have the bodice of the dress taken in, or you can buy a maxi length dress and shorten it to closer to the knees.

If you don't mind adding to the length then check out dresses at tjmaxx, tons of pretty Adrianna papell ones would work for shabbos

Sounds just like my sister --
I know two websites she's had good finds at are asos.com and shein.com
She's also found some things at Forever 21, but their online return policy is not great

I just bought a dress at asos for 100 dollars, It came to my door, they wanted 48.85 for customs (in canada) I refused it. Is that the norm?

I buy stuff from Asos all the time and I have never had to pay customs. I live in the US and have received things at addresses in two different states. Maybe something is different with Canada - sorry Sad

OP here.

Thank you for the ideas! I looked at those sites and didn't see anything good. And my daughter is very picky too! We found one dress on amazon that we both like, but it is a bit short. We would have to buy two and then add from the second to the first (the dress has sections of different fabric, it would look fine) - but that would add up to about 80 plus shipping (the dress is 28 - times 2 - plus alterations). That is a lot of money. I am not used to spending that much on her clothes. Last year her pesach outfit was $65 and I felt I spent a lot. We are very frugal....

We can go to Macys - which we didn't try yet -and try on ladies things with the intention of taking in the top if needed. I came home last night soooo exhausted and empty handed. This is so hard. That might not come out any cheaper.

Any more thoughts??

H & M has some midi length tznius dresses. Most are shapeless. Add a belt and voila it is beautiful. And their prices are pretty reasonable. I bought for my picky daughter and she is very happy. Also, if you have a store near by then you have free returns.

Thanks! I just looked and didn't see anything that was a good length. Do you want to paste a link of what you are talking about?

Or does anyone else who suggested websites (above) want to paste in links? all I see are very short or tight things.

Thank you very much!!

I don't know where you live but I've found gorgeous dresses in dress barn. One of my friends recently got a load of gorgeous stuff in Macy's but she's very short so it might have made a difference. Nordstrom, nordstorm rack and lord and Taylor may be good places to check, since they cater to high end non Jews (meaning the clothing covers a bit more then other stores )

Can you give me a little more details of what she likes?
Florals, solids, will she wear a shell under, are you looking only for dresses or also skirts...?
Also, how old is she? 13 yr old style is very different than 17 yr old style

Here a few things I saw looking quickly - not sure this is at all what you have in mind

oh, thank you so much!!

Not so into floral. One dress she liked had some floral pannels and some not, but she doesn't like exclusively floral dresses.

The third link you gave looks promising. I will show it to her tomorrow. And it looks long. I hope she doesn't think it is too long! Oh, she is 12, but tall and mature. She likes kind of older styles. As I said, we were trying on ladies things last night.

I am open to other specific links if anyone has time to do that.

Very much appreciated!!

My go to is Kohl's. If height is an issue and you're shopping online I'd go for maxi dresses. Here are all the maxi dresses at Kohl's:

I've had great luck with the Vera Wang brand, Lauren Conrad, and Elle.

question re some of your links... I live very OOT and I'm not up to date on frum styles, but my sil says that wearing shells is now a "no no". Some of the links above would require shells for those who adhere to BY tznius parameters. Would you recommend using a shell (ie, my sil is wrong), or some alternative? I"m looking for myself and 12 yo tall dd.

I also live pretty OOT which means that most people don't really follow the frum styles so strictly. Yes, knit dresses and pom poms are all the rage here, but any of those dresses would also still be fine with a shell. But it really depends on how "in" you need to be

Amazon has lots of dresses, as well as Asos, I also find at lord and Taylor and Macy's - go with a coupon you'll get a better deal..
Any better class regular store should have longer dressses. I sometimes by a larger size for length and have a seamstress take it in - I find it cheaper then adding material... it also looks much better that way.
