Our backyard is completely open to a parking lot. During the week, the kids like playing with bubbles and chalk, but that obviously won't work for Shabbat/Yom Tov. I don't want them using a ball, because that's just asking for it to roll into the parking lot next door. Any ideas of something good for them to play with? They are five and three. We have a sandbox that needs to be cleaned and refilled.

My six year old likes to bring his legos and sit on the porch or any other toy hes into at the moment.

We also do games like red light green light, simon says, mother may I, races

I was thinking about jump ropes. Hula hoops are a good idea too. Unfortunately, a swing set isn't really in the budget, and it's a rental house that we're planning to leave this summer anyway, so I don't really want to invest a lot of money into something.

Riding toys?

Can you mark out a boundary line with something so that your kids know where to stop? Would they listen?

Koosh balls won't roll anywhere

The could toss them back and forth, or even into a kids' basketball hoop (or laundry basket).

IF you have a dollar store near you I find they often have cheap ($1) toys that are perfect for an afternoon of fun

They're decent about staying on the grass that's part of the yard, but I don't trust them not to chase a ball (or other toy, really) that had rolled into the parking lot.
