my 6 year old son is begging for small lego,\and its so expensive!
where is the cheapest place to buy(ny area) or is there some type of really good second hand place to get this?

I'd scout freecycle and any thrift shop. Maybe Craigslist and ebay as well. Real lego is nearly indestructable so it hands down really well. I got my decent sized collection from freecycle. Post a "looking for" and see what happens!

My son loves lego too! I wish I had good cheap options for you, but I've never found really good bargins on Lego.
Not exactly what you asked fo, but if you already have a few sets there's an awsome website called rebrickable. You enter the number of the sets you have and it shows you instructions for other things you can build with the bricks you already have. My son loves this site!
