That moment when you realise that however Aussie you think you've become after all these years, you can't keep up with a native 'Strayan.

This morning:

DS11 comes down the stairs while pulling on his shirt and says to me, "sorry I'm down late Ta."

I reply amusedly, "I'm Ma." I get a blank look.

I try again: "I'm Ma, not Ta." Confused child is scratching his head.

I go back to the beginning and clarify: "You came to me and said 'sorry I'm down late Ta' but I'm not Tati, I'm Mommy!" (I'm thinking this should be pretty evident...)

Comprehension dawns. My Aussie child cracks a smile. He knows I am a lost cause. He patiently explains: "I said 'sorry I'm down lata (later)'..."
