Someone recently told me they know someone who dug very deep under their new house before it was built to access heat or maybe hot water? so that they don't have to pay heating bills or to lower them. Is this true or made up?

Digging maybe for well water? I would think the lower you go the colder you get. The only thing I'm aware of that lowers heat and energy costs are the solar panels put on the roof. I could be wrong though...
