We are looking to go on vacation July 4 weekend, Sunday to Tuesday, since then we can use less vacation days. We looked Ithaca, 4.5 hours from the city, but need a minyan and don't think they have.
Any ideas?
Reqs:
Pretty, with outdoor walks, parks, etc, or otherwise inexpensive activities
Not more than 4.5 hour drive from nyc
Minyan for 3 davening times
Hotels that are reasonable
Not in typiv al traveling places, like Rhode island, beach, because of traffic

Scranton PA? Albany, NY? There are many natural parks in the upper Catskills or Poconos and there are many camps that may have a minyan. Both those places also have minyanim

We once spent a lovely July 4th weekend in Scranton. There are a couple of shuls, plus the yeshiva, and several hotels in the area, and the people are warm and friendly.
If you go, you must go to Ricketts Glen State Park, about an hour away. It's a hidden gem, with about 19 stunning waterfalls spread along a 4-mile hike, but get there early, before it gets too crowded and the parking lot fills up. There's also boating and other activities there.
In Scranton, you have a wonderful train museum called Steamtown, if you're interested in that. Also check out Nay Aug park in town. And it won't be nearly as crowded as other more popular destinations.

Anyone been to Albany? We once spent a night there on the way north, but I don't see online that there is much to do there. We are 4 adults with a toddler.

There may be things to do between NY and Albany. And if you can find camps on the way you wont even need to go as far as Albany. I know there are some camps up the thruway and not in the Monticelo area. Also try Fleishmans or Tannersville

Albany itself doesn't have much in terms of activities. But it has minyan and you can do day trips from there to Howe's Caverns, Lake George, Ausable Chasm, even Cooperstown depending on how far you feel like driving.
