Please, does someone know why a challa would smell like a stong vinegar?
I left a dough on the fridge for a week and then it was smelly so I thought it is old, fine, I even baked just to make sure it was that, and yeah it was smelly still, butnow I made a new batch and after rising it smells terrible!!!!
What is wrong? I made water challah so I can't blame the eggs.....
Could it be the oil?? it was a little oilish the dough...but, it smells terrible!!!! is it spoiled?

the yeast? what, it went bad?
It could be I used more than the recipe asked for.....
But it was fresh yeast this time, and the old batch was dry....
Can it still be eaten?

It can be eaten, but its due to using too much yeast in the recipe.

it will be a very yeasty tasting challah.
For that amount of flour you really only need between 60 - 80 gr, depending on taste.
It may still be edible.
Maybe start one challah to taste and see.

not yet. first taste it.
It may not be so bad....just...yeasty tasting
some people like that.
In the future, you can actually freeze yeast. I'm not sure for how long though.

I make challah with 51/2 lbs of flour and I use 3 oz of yeast which is 1 1/2 packets of fresh yeast or 4 1/2 sachets of dry yeast.
