My son had to get a cavity filled erev yomtov. For some reason he wasn't getting numb from the anesthetic injection. He was crying in the chair and the dentist suggested laughing gas. He informed me that insurance doesn't cover it. I didn't feel I had a choice so I agreed. It was $199. Is there any way I can contest this with the insurance company? I have dental insurance and the regular injection wasn't working, so we used the gas. Why isn't that covered? Also, is $199 a fair price? Thank you.

I don't have insurance, but I'm pretty sure my dentist charges me $25 for the laughing gas.

The rules concerning sedation anesthesia vary from state to state and impact the cost of the delivery of this dental service. Your mileage varies. Some states require continuing education regarding sedation anesthesia and impose certain restrictions on the practice. Mal practice ins. prices will also vary from state to state and add additional costs to the delivery of this service.

I don't know anything about the specifics, but I am constantly fighting the insurance companies and am sometimes successful.
Ask your dentist's office to contact the insurance company and explain the situation. If they still don't agree to cover all or some portion ask the dentist's office to lower the charge. Most offices will do this when you're paying out of pocket.

check with your insurance plan. I had a similar story with a dentist Dr Gali made me pay for laughing gas. I later looked at my plan later and saw that insurance covers it. Luckily I payed with credit card. I called the credit card company contested the charge. And I won.
