We are looking to leave brooklyn and west heampstead is coming up as an idea. What is the housing market there. What would a more or less move in ready 4 bedroom house cost. How many yeshivish families are there and where do they send their kids. Are they any chinuch yeshivish families or is it more a professional crowd.

Its a very mixed community- some modern orthodox/YI types, some frum Queens families and some yeshivish people as well have been moving in. Very nice and welcoming, low key crowd. People send to either the Bais Yaakov/Tag schools in 5T or Queens and there is busing to both for free. Housing would be about 500k with high taxes.

I looked on zillow and the houses seemed kind of small - mainly 3 bedroom houses for around 500. What would a more or less move in ready 4 bedroom colonial cost?
I currently live in the Midwood area of Brooklyn and am very happy with the crowd there. It is kind of a Lakewood Yeshivish crowd but more down to earth, not as many yeshivish rules and less keeping up the Cohens than in Lakewood. Would I fit in West Hempstead?
How much is taxes a year on a house and what is the going rate for drop off babysitting there?

I live in WH - been here over 16 years. Back then it went from very modern to modern orthodox. I wear a sheitel and only skirts. Many women wear pants. The nice thing is it's very non-judgmental.

There's a new shul (beis Torah and Tefillah or something like that) Rabbi Lesser started it a few years ago in his house and they now have a small building. This is an agudath style minyan.

Best advice I can give you is to visit for a shabbos and see if it's something your interested. I know the Young Israel and Anshei Shalom set up families looking into the neighborhood. Eitz Chaim might do this too.

It doesn't hurt to take a drive on a Sunday on a nice day and drive around and see who's out and about.

Don't go by Zillow- it's notoriously inaccurate. You can google Sharona Beck, she's the main realtor out there and she probably has a website where you can view current homes for sale.

WH is definitely not lakewood yeshivish, even though I understand you are looking for a more laid back version of that. If that's what you're after, it's probably not really for you.
