I worked in a special education preschool a few years ago and made 15000 a year pre taxes. I think the hours were 8:45 to 3 or so. Don't remember exactly.

If you don't get enough of a sampling, please consider putting "Brooklyn" in the subject line. Hatzlacha!

how much does this masters cost that leads to a job that pays 15K a year? (I'm not in your country, so this seems strange to me)

Assistants get paid very little in Brooklyn yeshivas. She might be better off working as a shadow (para) for $14-16 an hour.

If she's working on a master's in education she may be able to apply for a transitional teaching certificate and then she can do any licensed teaching job at the full rate - including P3 and SEIT (I'm pretty sure, don't hold me to this)

I think poster bsy meant to say that she made $15k in her position without a degree.

Its 12 hours a week, and they usually hire girls straight out of high school (17-18 years old).

For a month with school every day, that's 48 hours, which comes out to around 12.50 an hour. Often, it works out to even more because all Jewish holidays and some legal holidays are paid days off.

There are opportunities for growth, for assistants who want to work towards becoming a teacher, Secretary, perminant sub. There are also often tutoring opportunities. Its a good first job, while a girl goes to college/seminary in the mornings. Its not a job meant to support a family!
