Why would he cut that off? It seems to me that he botched it and should be responsible to redo it.

He told us he needs to cut off a little so that the prefinished wood piece that is a nose shape can fit over the edge, but he didn't say it would be 1.5 inches shorter. We wouldn't have done it had we known. But the exact details wasn't stated in the contract.

What he is proposing does not work mathematically.
What will happen when folks start falling both up and down the stairs because the trends are too shallow? There is a reason why stair treads are ten inches deep.

A stringer is the housing that hold the risers and threads.
You may just be able to replace the treads.

Yup, and the best case scenario is he removes the mess he made and hangs a real staircase. Even better he calls in someone with skills and experience todo the job.
