We are going to our secular friends on vacation. Smile We want to show them the beauty of Shabbas (especially with food) and are wondering what to make/buy. They will be kashering their oven and range. What are some easy, fast things that seem fancy?
Thinking like 7 hour chicken with onions and garlic and potatoes, roasted vegatables, quinoa, etc.
What should we buy?
Also what activities would you suggest for shabbas?

I would try to bring a crock pot or hot plate and make a delicious Cholent. It can even be Friday night and Shabbos day.

Challa, gefilte fish etc. are also delicious. rewarm Challa right before Shabbos.

Btw, if you don't have a crock pot. Cholent, with enuf water can be in oven on 250 till Shabbos day. Make sure it doesn't close after 12 hours, like some new models do.

lol I don't gefilte fish is appealing to people who didn't grow up with it.

I would bring a fun family game like codenames or anomia. For food, London broil, roasted green beans, salad, fresh fruit, chicken soup and roasted salmon are all easy

A pretty table cloth, pretty disposables, extra white or pretty table cloths to put over computers, TV's & dress up side tables.

Even when I had to be in the hospital for Shabbas, putting a white table cloth over a side table made every thing seem more special & Kodesh.

Comfortable & pretty clothes for yourself & kids.

Special hair bows & things for girls. Etc.

Siddurim & benchers with transliteration as well as translations.

B'samin for havdala

Treats for Shabbas party.

Shnaps or beer or what ever the grownups like to drink.
Lots of tin foil to cook double wrapped everythings Wink

Oh-- I see that you don't have to cook double wrapped everythings-- kashering the range for you.

Chocolate chip challah!-- if you baked it at home, warm it up before the meal-- so yummy.

But seriously-- what ever you cook will be fine-- don't make yourself crazy-- seeing that you are happy & enjoy Shabbas is a more meaningful way to share and show your friends why Shabbas is special to us.

Popcorn/nuts/chocolate to munch on when the meal's over and you're shmoozing. It encourages conversation!
