I'm remodeling my kitchen
It's a galley kitchen
One side is complete white cabinets floor to ceiling
The other side has top and bottom cabinets, all white, with a counter top, 18 ft long, yes very long.
The floor is a very shiny light grey porcelain tile with very subtle grey lveining (almost like wood).
I picked a granite called Bacca Bianca.
It's a medium grey with a lot of movement and has big speckled areas with a wine color.
I liked it A LOT.
PROBLEM
I took a sample home and tried to stain it.
I put ketchup, tumeric, mustard, olive oil, coffee, lemon juice, blueberries
And left it for about 12hrs.
EVERYTHING, except the tumeric, stained it.
Big ugly blotches of brown stains, especially the oil.
No etching, even the lemon juice.
The sample was NOT sealed.
I called the granite guy
1. He told me when it's sealed it will resist more
2. He said the test was done for 12hrs., and usually it's done for about 1 hr.
I'm also doing a built in buffet in the dining room.
The thing is if on shabbos I, or someone else, leave something on the counter or buffet.
I'm not a slob, but accidents do happen.
Of course I'll wipe something if I see it, but I don't want to get up every 5 min. From the shabbos table to make sure everything is sparkling clean, and I won't be able to use a wet shmata on shabbos.
Will sealing it really make it stain proof.
I saw a YouTube video that showed cleaning stains on granite using acetone.
I'm trying it now, but it takes 48hrs.
If anyone has experience please let me know.
Should I pick something else.
I didn't really like anything I saw, and REALLY liked this.
OTOH, if it stains I'm not going to be so happy.
I need to make a decision ASAP, to not hold up the project.

I believe sealing does help very much. And you don't have to get up every five minutes. More lilke, after the meal when you clean up, wipe it down.

I love love love my granite counters. We sealed it only once when it was installed (abt 4 yrs ago) It is recommended to reseal every 1-2 yrs, we just never got around to do that. I don't know if every granite stains differently, I would think that granite is granite. I would recommend it, it's very practical.

Are you saying this from experience.

Do you remember the name of the granite so I can see the color
In my current home I have Uba Tuba, it's sooooo dark that of course no stain will show up.

Light colored granites are more prone to staining than dark, and will need resealing periodically. Can you get a sealed sample?
