I'm thinking about looking for cleaning help. Never wanted to before, but health issue might call for it now.
How much is reasonable that people charge today? Someone I used very sporadically, ie for Pesach charges $14 an hour.

I'm also uncomfortable not knowing if someone would be honest, & also reliable re kashrus. Any thoughts?
Thanks so much for any feedback

Where do you live? In Lakewood I pay $12/hr (I actually pay 12.50 but she charges 12.)

Passaic. I live in a 3 bedroom apartment, only 1 bathroom. 14 sounded like a lot, but since so sporadic, didn't mind.
If looking for regular, was hoping to find then 10 or at most 12/12.50 like you're suggesting.
Thank you.
Is it common ever for people to split up a month, alternating weeks? (I feel like even just 2x a month for heavier cleaning would be sufficient, huge leverage there)

In my area it costs 20-25 an hour

Needless to say, I don't have cleaning help

I pay $15 in Lakewood and think it is fortune. The only consolation I have is that she is very quick and does in 3-4 hours what my previous help did in 6. Nevertheless I feel very uncomfortable paying this much.

In Brooklyn maybe. In my area it’s 100 a house, flat rate. Maybe less for a smaller house or more for a bigger house. Mine is a 5 bedroom 4 bathroom.

It’s not a fortune I think that’s a normal rate nowadays. 12 is very low.

I pay $10 plus one way taxi. This is the norm here.
I think more than $12 is a lot.

Why do you pay more than the 12 you agreed upon? You're only helping to drive up the rates.

not that poster but - if she works for 4 hours that's $50 rather than $48. If paying cash - leaving $1 bills may seem tacky.

If you are happy with the work she is doing (ie quality)and she is very quick then matematically it pays off, right?
USD 12x6 hrs=72 vs. USD 15x4hrs=60 vs. USD15x6 hrs=90

I pay $10 an hour plus $5 transportation. As far as kashrus goes, I put my dishes away before she comes. This way, I don't have to worry about her washing milchigs and fleishigs together. Also, most people are honest on a job as they want to hold on to the job so even those who are not naturally honest people won't steal if they know they're coming back.
