It's Open Enrollment time for me. My workplace offers a choice of health insurance carriers, and Cigna is the cheapest by far (I've had Aetna till now, and they also offer BCBS. Both are quite a bit more in premiums.)

Anyone in Lakewood with Cigna? How would you rate them as a carrier?

TIA!

I cannot speak to Lakewood specifically, but I have Cigna, and they claim to have the largest network of providers. I have yet to find a doctor who took insurance who did not take Cigna.

I have Cigna as well and I also found that they have a very good network. I live in North Jersey and I find that most specialists in NYC that accept insurance take Cigna. I don't know about the network around Lakewood. Why don't you call your doctors. They didnt pay for certain medical items like a spacer for a nebulizer or elemental formula but that might be the pharmacy network and not Cigna specifically.

I just switched from Aetna to Cigna in Lakewood. Much better coverage (at least on my plan) and more doctors take it.

Where is this insurance available: trekugh brokers or employers? I don't remember seeing it on exchange and would like to get an idea of rates and drs in network.
How can you look up drs not knowing which plans insurance offers?

My employer sponsors a percentage of my premiums, so the amounts I would pay are not the full premium amount.

The family rates I'm choosing between are $323 for Aetna; $358 for Carefirst; $366 for UHC; and $210 for Cigna. These are biweekly payroll deduction rates. The coverage levels/plan types are equal.

I think I'm going to go with Cigna. Thank you all.

FWIW, if you are getting a health plan through an employer, another person's experience can be quite different since the employer can customize a health plan even with the same insurance company.

Large employers will generally have better benefits even if the health insurance company is the same.

The best way to decide is to determine what is important to you - are the doctors you want to see in the specific network? Are the co-payments and deductibles different. Is it an HMO or a PPO or an EPO - important if you want to see a doctor that is out of network which could happen if you want a specialist.

So far so good - I'm pretty happy with them. I have some out-of-network claims and I was concerned about how they would process them, but so far so good.

Like Amarante said, though, my experience could be very different, as I'm on an employer-sponsored plan.
